2nd October’ 2008: Inaugurated
Kalimpong Science Centre has been established in Kalimpong, one
of the Hill Sub-Division of Darjeeling District in the year
2008, conceived, designed and developed by National Council of
Science Museums (Ministry of Culture, Government of India). It
is knowledge-based organization of high quality and dedication,
engage in popularizing Science and Technology among the general
masses particularly, in students.
Kalimpong Science Centre was inaugurated on 2nd October’2008 by
Shri B. L. Meena, IAS, and Honorable Admistrator-Darjeeling
Gorkha Hill council.Kalimpong Science Centre has observed its 4th
Anniversary with different programme. On this occasion the
Centre has organized inter-school painting competition. The folk
Cultural Unit, Kalimpong has presented cultural programme. The
programmes were witnessed by Dr. R. B. Bhujel, Executive
Sabhasad, Dept. of Higher Education-GTA, Mr. K. K. Lohar,
Executive Director, Dept. of Higher Education-GTA.
Event: The Kalimpong Science Centre was inaugurated on 2nd October’2008 by Shri B. L. Meena, Hon’ble Administrator-Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council in the presence of Shri Surendra Gupta, IAS, Principal Secretary- Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council, Smt. D. L. Phinzo, Secretary, Dept. of Education-DGHC, and Mr. P. T. Sherpa, S. D. O.-Kalimpong. After the inauguration, the Kalimpong Science Centre has been organizing various education related activities in order to promote the science and technology particular, in students. The programs organized by Kalimpong Science Centre are:
1. 6th December 2008: Kalimpong Sub- Divisional Level Inter–School Sit & Draw Competition

On this day Centre had observed World Environment Day and on the occasion of this day the centre organized inter-school “Extempore Contest, Essay Contest and Sit & Draw competition”.

6. 1st July 2009: Doctor’s Day: Tree plantation & Health Awareness Program
On the occasion of Doctor’ Day the Centre had organized health awareness program in collaboration with Kalimpong Sub-Divisional Hospital and on the same day Centre organized tree plantation from the local peoples of Deolo hills and they planted more than 200 trees with different varieties in Deolo area.
On the same Doctors from Kalimpong Sub-Divisional Hospital- Dr. S. L. Pradhan delivered lecture on the topic of “Diabetic” and Doctor from Kalimpong Municipality -Dr. S. D. Zimba delivered lecture on the topic of Solid Waste Management.
More than 150 local peoples were present during lecture of invited guests.
At the end of the programs, Kalimpong Science Centre presented memento to Dr. Zimba and Dr. Pradhan with million of thanks.
6. 30th August 2009: Inter College Debate Competition.
Colleges that participated in this event were:

4. St. Joseph’s College, Kalimpong.
Small Scale Industrial day was also observed on this day. In the same occasion a inter college debate competition was organized. The topic for the day was “IS OUR INDUSTRIAL PROGRESS HAMPERING OUR SUSTAINABLE LIFE?”
The winner was awarded with trophies and certificates.

1. 30th April’2010: Inter Nursery School Elocution Contest: Kalimpong Science Centre had organized Inter Nursery School Elocution contest’ 2010 jointly with Kalimpong Nursery School Welfare Association at Kalimpong Science Centre. The Chief Guest was Mr. Samsher Ali, Food & Supply Officer, Kalimpong. In this competition 25 nursery schools had participated. All the participants had awarded with “Certificate of Honour” and winning trophy to those who stood in 1st, 2nd and 3rd Position.
2. 6th March’2010 to 14th March’2010: Art Exhibition
Kalimpong Science Centre had organized “Art Exhibition: …bringing the colour hills under one roof with the motive to give the platform to Artists with the display of their painting so that peoples could know their talent. In this art exhibition total 14 artists from Kalimpong Sub-Division had participated. The entire artist presented “Certificate of Honour” by the Centre. The Chief Guest inaugural day was Mr. Kumar Bhusal, WBCS (Exe), Secretary, Kalimpong Branch Secretariat, DGHC-Kalimpong.

3. 5th June’2010: World Environment Day: On this day student from R. K. S. P. Boys’ Higher Secondary School, Darjeeling participated in tree plantation in Deolo area and students planted more than 300 trees with 5 verities. Total 75 students with the teachers of the same school participated in this plantation activity. Dr. B. B. Gurung, Curator, Kalimpong Science Centre delivered lecture on the topic of “Global Climate Change and its Impact”.
On the same day staff of Kalimpong Science Centre (Mr. Hemanta Thapa, Education Assistant, Antim Pradhan, Fitter, Benay Thapa, Electrician and simon Chamling, Electronic Technician) were felicitated by the staff of Kalimpong Science Centre who went to on-job training for one month (March’2010) at National Council of Science Museums (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India), Kolkata and Birla Industrial and Technological Museums, Kolkata
4. 9th March’2010:Inter School Sit & Draw Competition
On 9th March’2010 Kalimpong Science Centre had organized inter school sit & draw competition and in this completion total five schools had participated with 45 students and all the participating students awarded with “Certificate of Participation” and the students who stood in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd positions had been awarded with Certificate, trophy and science books.
5. 10th March’2010 to 13th March’2010: Workshop on Fine Art. This work shop was done with a motive to save the practice and to preserve the culture of art in the hills. There are many skilled artists in the hills but due to the modern day technology the skilled artist are at a draw back to compete them. Hence to keep this trend alive this workshop on fine art was held. In this workshop renowned artist of Kalimpong As well as near by areas had participated and given their technical help to those interested art learners from different school who has come for the work shop. The taught how to draw and paint in different materials like paper and canvas.
6. Felicitation Program: Felicitated to Mr. I. B. Subba, renowned artist from Kalimpong Sub-Division, Kalimpong for his outstanding contribution in the field of fine art on 14th March’2010.
7. 25th Sept’2010: Spell Bee Competition: In this competition students from 6 schools from Kalimpong had participated. The total number of participants in the competition were 39 out of which the winners were as follows:

9. Second Anniversary Program of Kalimpong Science Centre:
Kalimpong Science Centre was inaugurated on 2nd October’2008 and therefore, Kalimpong Science Centre celebrated its 2nd Anniversary on 2nd October’2010. The Chief Guest of the day was Mr. S. Sada, Secretary, Dept. of Finance-Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council and the Guest of Honour was: Mr. S. Sherpa, Finance Officer-DGHC and Mr. On this occasion Centre had organized Inter College Seminar Contest with power point presentation where three colleges from Darjeeling district had participated. The topic for the seminar was “Global Warming and its impact in Climate Change”.

On the occasion of Second Anniversary the centre felicitated to Mr. Bhakta Pariyar, renowned artist from Kalimpong sub-division for his outstanding contributions in the field of fine art.
On the occasion of 2nd Anniversary, students from “Geeti Nrityam”, a Music Institute of Kalimpong performed their “Nritya (Classical dance)” on the stage and Kalimpong Science Centre also presented “Certificate of Participation” to all the participants for their lovely performance and co-operation and the students was trained by Mr. Anuraj Pradhan, head of “Geeti Nrityam”, Music Institute, Kalimpong for this stage programme.
10. 5th Dec’ 2010: Popular Lecture: As directed by the National Council of Science Museum (Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India), Centre had organized a popular lecture. A renowned scientist from Iowa State University, Ames, U. S. A. Prof. Eve Syrkin Wurtele had come to present her presentation on “Plants: Turning Air to Oil”. The students from high school/Colleges here at Kalimpong had attended the seminar. The seminar proved to be very informative for the youngsters who had gathered here for the seminar.
All the programs given above were conducted by the technical team of Kalimpong Science Centre headed by the Curator of Kalimpong Science Centre.
Training Programme
The Centre is organizing Computer Training Programme, Adventure Course, Mushroom Cultivation Training etc. for the Self Help Group, under privilege Children, House Wives, or to different section of the Society to make them self dependent or to promote the Science & Technology amongst the general masses particularly, in students.
Out Reach Programme
The technical staffs of the Centre are visiting to different schools as well remote area as an outreach programme with full scientific tools from where the students are facing difficulty to visit the Centre.
