Quiz Contest: 16th October’ 2014
On the 16th of
October 2014, GANESH HIGH SCHOOL organized an INTER HOUSE QUIZ
CONTEST in association with KALIMPONG SCIENCE CENTRE at the
premises of the Center. The chief guest for the event was Dr.
B.B.Gurung, curator of KALIMPONG SCIENCE CENTRE. The function
was attended by shri R.P. Tamang, Headmaster of GANESH HIGH
SCHOOL, staff and students of the school.
In the history of Ganesh High School, this was the first time
that a quiz event was conducted. The competition was held
between the four houses: GANDHI, NEHRU, RAMKRISHNA AND PARASMANI.
In total there were 10 rounds in the quiz and different topics
were there for children to involve themselves during the quiz.
The quiz was highly competitive and the children put up a good
show, even they were encountering a quiz contest for the first
time in their academic life.
It was long quiz that lasted almost 3 hours. In between the quiz
rounds, the audience was treated with informative visual clips
by the quiz master.
The quiz competition was won by Nehru house represented by SAPNA
SUBBA, PRIYANKA RAI, SAGAR CHETTRI and MILAN BHUJEL. Parasmani
and Ramkrishna house finished joint second while Gandhi finished
last. The best quizzer was bagged by Miss Priyanka Rai of Nehru
house.
At the end of the quiz programme, Dr. B.B. Gurung, the chief
guest along with Shri R.P. Tamang addressed the students.
The quiz was conducted by Shri Suraj Mani Pradhan, assistant
teacher of Ganesh High School.

Photography Workshop (1-2, February’ 2014):
Kalimpong Science Centre in collaboration with Focus Kalimpong
(a photographer association) has organized two days (from 1-2,
February’ 2014) photography workshop.
7th March’ 2014: Sit & Draw Competition
Kalimpong Science Centre has organized govt. aided/ govt. primary school level sit & draw competition on 7th March’ 2014 and following schools participated:
1. St. Philomina’s School, Kalimpong
2. Indo-Tibetan School, Kalimpong
3. Basanta Maya Primary School, Kalimpong
4. Bikash Sangh Primary School, Kalimpong
The competition is categorized as group I (class I and II) and group II (class III and IV).
Total numbers of participants are 50.
In group I:
First: Preksha Pradhan, St. Philomina’s School
Second: Babita Ekka, St. Philomina’s School
Third: Maya Munda, St. Philomina’s School
Group II:
First: Rukshar Saha, Bikash Sangh Primary School
Second: Sony Mahota, Development Primary School
Third: Neharika Gupta, Indo Tibetan School
Third: Rani Rai, St. Philomina’s School
Winner awarded with certificate and trophy and the entire participant awarded with certificate of appreciation.
The program was conducted by Hemanta, Thapa, additional education assistant.
The competition were judged by Mr. Bikram Parajuli, Film Director/Producer and Dr. B. G. Gurung, Head, Kalimpong Science Centre. Certificate and trophy distributed by both of them.
On the same day Sagar Rai, Staff of the Centre presented an Origami Show, a method of paper folding to all the participants.
21st of March to 23rd 2014: Sit & Draw/Art Exhibition
Kalimpong Science Centre has organized Sit & Draw Contest and a GTA level Art Exhibition from 21st of March to 23rd March’ 2014.The Artists from different area of the Darjeeling Hills has exhibited their valuable paintings. The programme was inaugurated by Headmistress, Kalimpong Girls’ Higher Secondary School.

9th May 2014: Inauguration of Photo Gallery
On the auspicious occasion of Rabindra Jayanti (9th May 2014), the Centre has organized one month long exhibition of old photographs of Kalimpong. The programme was inaugurated by Curator of the Centre.
23rd May’ 2014: Talking Documentary
Kalimpong Science Centre has launched a programme entitled “Talking Documentaries”, a series of documentaries on relevant social issues/scientific findings will be shown at different schools from time to time. On this day, a resource person Mr. Suraj Mani Pradhan, Assistant Teacher, Ganesh High School, Kalimpong had delivered a lecture on the science related topics with showing a science documentary movie. In this programme students from different school had attended. Chief Guest of the day was Mr. Nima Tamang, Sabhasad, GTA, Kalimpong.
5th June’ 2014: World Environment Day
Kalimpong Science Centre has observed World Environment Day’ 2014. On this occasion Dr. Sajid Ali, Asst. Prof, Utter Banga Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Kalimpong has delivered a lecture with power point on global warming. Dr. B. B. Gurung, Curator of the Centre has also delivered a lecture on the importance of environment day. In the second half of the program, plantation of fruit plants were planted within the premises of the Centre from the students of Algarah Primary School, Kalimpong and Self Help Group, Upper Echhey Sherpa Gao. Mr. Sailesh Chhetri, Headmaster of Algarah Primary School delivered a lecture on the occasion. of Mr. Bishnu Chhetri, Secretary, Krishak Kalyan Shangathan (NGO) has supplied required number of fruits plants.
9th September 2014: School One Act Play Competition
Inter School One Act Play has been organized by Kalimpong Science Centre on the following themes:
· Municipality waste
· unemployment problems
· Rainwater Harvesting
· Solar energy
Only two schools have participated in this contest.
The name of the Participating students were as-
Miss Ushmita Baraily and Tsultrim J. Gyalchen from Saptashree Gyanpith, Kalimpong.
Mr. Dil kumar Subba and Rohan Gurung from Kumudini Homes, Kalimpong.
The Guests of the program were as Mr. Prabin Rai, Principal St. Piter’s School, Kalimpong, Mr. Sailesh Chhetri, Head Master, Algarah Primary School, Mr. Abhinash Chhetri, Asst. Teacher, Saptashree Gyanpith, Kalimpong.
Judges for the competition were Mr. Madan Bhujel, an Actor, Kalimpong and Mr. Bikram Parajuli, Film Producer/Director, Kalimpong.
Winner of the competition were Saptashree
Gyanpith, Best Script to Mr. Abhinash Chhetri, Asst. Teacher,
Saptashree Gyanpith, Best Actress of the competition to Usmita
Baraily. The name of the contents that adjudged in 2nd and 3rd
were: Mr. Dil kumar Subba and Rohan Gurung from Kumudini Homes,
Kalimpong.
14th Nov’ 2014:
Children’s Day:
Kalimpong Science Centre has celebrated Children’s Day on 14th
November’ 2014. On this special day Centre has organized “Like
as Magic: Chemical Show” to the school students who visited the
Centre. On the same the Centre inaugurated one month long art
exhibition at the auditorium of the Centre.
